5th Grade Ope Point Perspective Earth Drawings

One Point Perspective! Perspective is used in drawing to add space and dimension to a drawing. Learning to draw with perspective is one step to drawing more realistically.  This can be a hard concept for young students to understand, yet this group of 5th graders took on the challenge beautifully.

Students looked at examples of one point perspective and learned about the all important "vanishing point" to which lines in a drawing connect to. We also learned the difference between the three viewpoints of drawing in perspective: worm's eye view, man's eye view, and bird's eye view.

Our drawings focused on drawing in bird's eye view, meaning that we are looking down on the scene from above. The students were tasked with creating an imaginary view of earth as seen from space complete with buildings, oceans, stars, and any other creative details.

Students used rulers to create straight lines that connected to the vanishing point.

Many of the drawings had an impressive amount of detail.

The drawings were finished using a combination of colored pencils and color sticks.

Take a look at some of the finished drawings!

These drawings turned out very nice and I am proud of the students for accomplishing success on a difficult concept.
