Fourth Grade Clay Monsters

Fourth graders learned about movie concept art and the artist, Mary Blair. Mary Blair worked for Disney as a concept artist and worked on a lot of movies we love like Cinderella and Alice in Wonderland.

We also learned about movie designers today. Animators often sculpt characters from clay before animating them on the computer. We made our own clay characters by sculpting a silly monster!

We first learned how to make a bowl by using the "pinch pot" method. We used this bowl as the body for our monster. Each student then designed their own characters by attaching details. For most of our students, this was their first time sculpting with clay. They loved it!

Clay is messy fun!

Look at our monsters in progress!

After drying, it was time to paint our monsters.

Take a look at a few of our awesome finished monsters!

When you visit school, make sure to check out the display case. We are displaying some of our awesome projects!
